Monsignor Robert Noon – Rest in Peace

Brothers,
Please pray for the soul of Msgr. Robert Noon who died very peacefully last evening while in “comfort care” at Mount Carmel-East Hospital. At age 97 he was the oldest priest of the Diocese of Columbus.  He was also a former Assistant Pastor of Our Lady of Peace.
Calling hours, funeral plans and Monsignor’s obituary have yet to be determined. Understandably, due to COVID-19 precautions and restrictions, seating for the Mass of Christian Burial will be extremely limited; live-streaming is being discussed.
Eternal rest grant unto Msgr. Robert Noon, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Msgr. Noon was a native of the diocese, born in Zanesville in 1923. He was ordained in St. Joseph Cathedral by Bishop Ready in 1951. Over the years he has served in many positions in the diocese, beginning as Assistant or Associate Pastor at Columbus St. Peter, Marion St. Mary, Columbus St. Aloysius, Lancaster St. Mary, Coshocton, Sacred Heart, and Columbus Our Lady of Peace and Holy Spirit parishes. He spent three years as a missionary in Peru. He was Pastor of Waverly St. Mary, Columbus St. Elizabeth, and Lancaster St. Bernadette parishes. He also taught at St. Joseph Academy and Holy Family High School, was priests’ director for the Cursillo movement, liaison to the diocesan Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and chairman of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission. He was named a monsignor, with the title prelate of honor, by Pope St. John Paul II in 1992 and received the title protonotary apostolic in 1999.
